Emergency Relief Fund - Food and Shelter Crisis Support

Mr Tang (Xiao Tang, @chuanminhtang on TikTok) is a street-food cook from Nanchong, Sichuan, who works a griddle on the sidewalks of Los Angeles. Every week he hands out hundreds of free jiangxiang bing - golden savoury Chinese flatbread - to homeless and low-income neighbours in some of LA's poorest districts. He speaks little English and works through a translation app; he was detained by police in 2025 in a dispute over street-vending rules, and he has said he wants to one day run for Mayor of Los Angeles. Grateful people on Skid Row have called him 'President'. LA County counted about 72,000 homeless residents in 2025 - roughly 43,600 of them inside the city itself. One hot jiangxiang bing will not end that, but on the street it means someone saw you, today. When someone loses their room, their job or their benefits, the fall is fast: one missed rent payment, one illness, one bill is all it takes before a person is sleeping rough. This fund pays for the things that stop the fall - a night's emergency accommodation, a food shop, a deposit advance, a bus fare to family. Grants are small, fast and direct, with no red tape, because the moment that matters is the one happening right now. Entry: GBP 25.00 into the crisis fund. HELP THE POORS prioritises parents with children and people newly on the street, when a small amount still changes the outcome.
