The Hot Breakfast Run - Jiangxiang Bing and Coffee in Cold Hands
Ask anyone who sleeps rough what hurts most and the answer is rarely only the hunger - it is the mornings. Waking on cold concrete with nothing warm to hold is the moment the day defeats you before it begins. This week, Mr Tang's kitchen adds a morning breakfast run: a folded, foil-wrapped jianbing and a cup of hot coffee, handed over warm, at dawn, at the places where people actually wake up - underpasses, bus depots, tent lines and the doors of the shelters that filled up overnight. Every £5 entry funds four complete hot breakfast bags: jiangxiang bing, coffee, napkin and a word. This week's target is 1,200 bags across five dawns. We will publish the count each morning on the kitchen's channel, with the tally chalked on the cart at the end of the week - last week's number written large, crossed out, and beaten. At Saturday's session we go out with the dawn run on live camera, we hear from two of the regulars of the breakfast queue (their choice of words, not ours), and we plan the route map for the coming week together. Bring a mug. Bring a fiver. Bring a name for the wall. Nobody should start a cold morning with cold hands.
